Khun
Prapakorn Intarawong and Khun Pornrat Engpaiboon are the
guardians of Owen, 2 yrs 6 month old male Rottweiler, the very first Rottweiler in Thailand that has
completed and passed the Guarding Dog examination (Sch H I) by
the GDAT on August 8, 1999.
"Before
we had Owen, we used to have to German Shepherds, named 'Shop
and Champ' which we sent to Sukhumvit
International Dogs School for
training. We knew about Sukhumvit
International Dogs School from a book, in a column
interviewing Khun Pichai. That was some thing like 5 or 6
years ago.
It struck me. The result of Shop and Champ's training was
extremely satisfying. Now they are at my mother's because she
lives in such a neighborhood where burglaries are prevalent.
Since they have been sent to my mother's, the burglary stopped
and no more things are stolen from her property."
"When
we had Owen, we didn't hesitate to send him to S.J. because we
have the confidence in their trainers and systematic training
. But Sukhumvit International Dogs School referred Owen to K9 Pattaya since the premises are
larger so Owen would have plenty of space to exercise. And the
result proved what the school claimed, Owen returned very
strong and healthy. He used to be very fat and weighted 45
kilograms. It was very fortunate we had trainer Net to look
after him for us. He had really weak hind legs; he couldn't
even manage half a foot jump. Trainer Net had him run all the
time, as a result he could jump higher and higher every time
we visited him, which certainly exceeded our expectations.
Actually, all dogs have their abilities. It depend on the
trainer whether he/she is able to unleash those capabilities.
We were very lucky to have a trainer who understands the dog
and know his job."
'Owen'
is very possessive of his home. He will bark at any untidily
dressed strangers and prevent their entries. But if I stop
him, he will obey, by stop barking but would not leave the
strangers out of sight. When he sees other dogs running
towards him, he would just stay immediately charge at those
packs of dogs. When I say stop, he will, Owen is such a good
dog, he never barks annoyingly."
"When
Owen came back home after completing the course, he got
very ill one day. As soon as his trainer learned the news, he
called and asked how Owen was doing whether if the was
recovering. Frankly, I was very impressed, I never thought
that this kind of dog training school does exist !
Although
the dogs are no longer with them, courses completed; they
still do follow up. Now we have just sent Mafia, another 6
month old Rottweiler to K9 Pattaya. The quality of K9 Pattaya has been evident by the results. Otherwise we wouldn't
have continually sent three of our dogs there for training,
and the fourth one also. For we trust them."
"In
our feeling dogs are just like 4 - 5 year old kids, if he does
something that we don't like , just a word; he would stop and
he quiet, then just leave. If it was with someone else, he
would bark at them straight away. We never beat him. If we
want to reprimand him, we just turn his face towards us, look
him in the eyes and tell him what was wrong. He would then
look away, the dog must de afraid of us; not we of them."
"We
strongly disagree with the training by means of using food to
lure them to follow commands. What if there is no food, would
the dogs obey? We must also keep in mind that trained dogs
must be able to utilized his abilities afterwards."
"Assessments
and tests after training are concrete evidences of how dogs
have progressed and the trainers' efficiencies can be
demonstrated. Sukhumvit International Dogs
School should keep on this practice for this is
unique and a very good thing to do."
